Purna
Unnati ki Sajhedaari
A PEPSICO & PLAN Foundation Initiative
Strengthening Rural Waste Systems for Lasting Impact
Project Purna works with the Municipal Corporation in Mathura–Vrindavan city and across 13 villages in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh, as well as 5 villages in Sangrur district, Punjab.
It addresses unmanaged waste caused by rapid urbanisation, leading to low segregation, informal systems, and limited inclusion. Using a cluster-based approach, the project enables decentralised door-to-door collection, segregation, and local processing.
At its core, Purna empowers women to lead waste operations and drive behaviour change. Through its Swachh Gaon Model, the project strengthens rural waste systems while creating cleaner environments, dignified livelihoods, and stronger community ownership.
