Advancing Social and
Financial Inclusion

Empowering Waste Workers

Waste workers are at the heart of our waste management systems, yet many face daily challenges ranging from financial insecurity to social exclusion. Through our Social and Financial Inclusion initiatives, we work to ensure they have access to the opportunities, support, and recognition they deserve.

Strengthening Livelihoods

We support waste workers in accessing government welfare schemes, social security benefits, and essential identification documents while promoting their integration into formal waste management systems. Through the provision of safety gear, financial literacy initiatives, and the formation of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), we help strengthen livelihoods, improve working conditions, and foster long-term financial resilience.

Promoting Health and Well-Being

Through regular health camps, screenings, and awareness sessions, we work to improve waste workers' access to preventive and primary healthcare. We also help connect them with healthcare resources and support services, promoting better health outcomes and overall well-being.

Why this Matters
  • Stronger Waste Management Systems: When waste workers are recognized, organized, and supported, they can contribute more effectively to waste collection, segregation, and resource recovery, helping cities build more efficient and sustainable waste management systems.

  • More Resilient Communities: Access to healthcare, financial services, and social protection helps waste workers and their families build greater stability, strengthening the communities that play a vital role in urban sustainability.

  • Creating Circular Cities for Everyone: Circular cities can only thrive when the people who have long supported waste management systems are included in the benefits of that transition. By promoting social and economic inclusion, we help ensure that sustainability creates opportunities for all, not just a few.
